Kolkata's first Treasure Hunting Market of recycling items opens on Dec 29

Kolkata, Dec 28 (HS): As Kolkata, the City of Joy is facing a massive threat of having one of the worst air qualities forcing more and more people to visit hospitals regularly for health check ups, the second campus of iLEAD, India's premiere institute for Media and Management studies in the city, has launched a unique initiative by introducing the city''s first ''Treasure Hunting Market '', based'' on the principles of selling recycling and reusable items. Announcing this new initiative a spokesman of iLead informed Hindusthan Samachar here today that since the city's bulk daily waste of more than 1000 tonnes was one of the major contributing factors to make Kolkata as one of the most polluted cities not only in India but in the whole world as well, the city''s first ever Treasure Hunting Market would become the latest and first of its kind initiative based on the use of recycling and reusable items of old materials to help reduce the city's bulk waste and deadly pollution. At the market, to be formally inaugurated in the second Campus tomorrow (Saturday, December 29) for a two day initiative before being held on every Sunday thereafter in the new year (2019), would have sundry goods, antiques and household items for sale, barter and traded at bargain basement prices. Stating that the concept of such treasure hunt market was very common and popular in Europe and the USA,the spokesman further informed that it also allowed the buyers to search and find vintage and antique pieces for home and household decorations at bargain basement prices. It is also one of the best opportunities to interact with vendors and shoppers and the cycling community in the city'', he said adding since everyone was on the hunt for the best items,these markets draw an early crowd and all the best items get sold early. ''So the earlier you arrive, the better it is'', he said.

Also added to the charm of the Treasure Hunt would be ''Food, Fun and Fiesta'' for all foodies and culinary enthusiasts, the iLead spokesman said adding among other Globally renowned Recycling Initiatives of the institute was launching a reading revolution in the streets of Kolkata with its street library movement. Based on the concept of recycling, hundreds of old, read or unwanted books from millions of houses in the city, these libraries had no membership fee and no traditional policy of borrow and lend. This helped to create a book loving community throughout the city. Being the pioneer of all recycling activities in the city, the Vertical Gardens of iLEAD has joined the league of Vertical Gardening in Mexico, Japan, France and Germany.

These gardens capture harmful gases and dust, helps produce more oxygen, besides improving the air quality and act as a heat barrier to reduce harmful solar radiation.
