iLEAD Organizes Commemoration of Dwarkanath Tagore at London
Event On : 11 Aug 2018
Dwarkanath Tagore, the pioneer who led the process of industrialization in India and Bengal Renaissance, was cremated in 1846 at the Kensal Green Cemetery in London. He is also the grandfather of the nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore.
To honour Dwarkanath Tagore’s contributions, iLEAD along with Bengal Heritage Foundation, British Council, Friends of Kensal Green (London) and London Sharad Utsav arranged a commemoration event at the Kensal Green Cemetery in London. The tomb of Tagore, which was in a damaged state, was restored with a new one on the day. Several Bengalis from London also gathered at the mausoleum to lay wreaths.
The attendees also walked from the tomb towards the Dissenters’ Chapel while singing the Rabindra Sangeet ‘Anondoloke Mongolaloke’. A small talk session and cultural program also took place inside the Chapel.
iLEAD believes in creating entrepreneurs out of every student of ours. And there can’t be a better example for them other than Dwarkanath Tagore who pioneered entrepreneurship in the British ruled India. To memorialize Tagore’s notable contributions for the younger generation and also to pay our respect, iLEAD took up this initiative and reached London.
“We are proud of him and his story is still untold which deserves to be narrated to one and all”, said Mr. Pradip Chopra before departing from Kolkata for London.
