iLEAD Debate - Dialogic 2016

On 28th of March iLEAD held its intra college debate, 'Dialogic 2016'.
A total of 6 teams comprising 2 members each spoke for and against 2 pre decided motions. Participants included Shruti Popat and Sanchari Halder (MSC Semester 2), Rijuta Manot and Abdul Sabir Khan (BMS Semester 6), Anisha Das and Manraj Jawanda (BMS Semester 4), Akriti Grover and Aditya Prasad (BMS Semester 2A), Tridha Ghoshal and Upasana Chakraborty (BMS Semester 2B) and Siddhant Srivastava and Sreya Sugla (BBA Semester 2B).

The event held in the auditorium (Carnegie Hall) between 1-4 pm saw the crowd cheering for the participants who spoke on the first motion- 'Developed countries should liberalize their immigration policies/laws?', moderated by Mr. Dhritisundar Roy Chowdhury followed by the second - 'India should adopt a presidential form of government' moderated by Ms. Debarati Ghosh. The two moderators performed dual roles by serving as judges too.
After 3 hours of fierce competition, including strong arguments and rebuttals, the team represented by Semester 4- Media Science (Anisha Das and Manraj Jawaanda) emerged victorious. The Best Speaker award was conferred to Anisha Das, though Tridha Ghoshal (Semester 2- Media Science) proved a worthy rival.
About Moderators:
Mr. Dhritisundar Roychowdhury. He is a filmmaker and a teacher. He is a lecturer with UGC and Jadavapur University. He is a senior Research fellow at the Film Studies Department of Jadavpur University. He has recoreded several lectures for UGC, to be aired on Doordarshan.
Debaroti Chakrabarty, She is pursuing a PHD in the Department of Comparative Literature, Jadavpur University and teaches at the Undergraduate and Post-Graduate levels there. She is also a lecturer at the 'Bodies at the Borders' collaborative video-conferencing course between Cornell University ,U.S.A, El Paso, Texas. An active theatre person, she is a also a Creative Consultant at Chaepani, a forum engaged with Performing Arts-in-Education.
